? 2941/4 ceasaila
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: August 4, 1995
RE: Gervais Lake "No Wake Zone" Update
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
I have discussed the possible formation of a "No Wake Zone" for
the southwest bay of Lake Gervais with Mike McGuire, City Manager
of Maplewood. He indicated their city would likely be receptive
to this request, with the only caveat being citizen reaction. He
suggested we put together a draft and get it to them for action.
We also discussed the possibility of the County enacting this
ordinance. We felt it would be better accomplished at the city
level in order that we not lose our ability to react to citizen
input.
Also, enclosed for your review is the DNR's information regarding
water surface management. You will note that there are a number
of options available from the regulatory standpoint (See
6110.3700). Based on my conversation with Lieutenant Bergeron of
the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, we would be proposing the
initiation of a "slow -no wake" zone for the southwest bay for a
24 hour a day period which would be in effect the entire calendar
year. If the Council feels modifications to this approach are
warranted, we should discussed them at Wednesday's meeting.
Should you have any comments or questions in the meantime, please
let me know.
JRH:kpv
Enclosure
Page 36
