515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
July 21, 1995
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Administrative Assistant
RE: St. Paul Water Department Property
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scaize
Jim IaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISI HATOR
Joel R Hanson
The Board of Water Commissioners has recommended that their
wetland property, adjacent to the two sites they are planning to
sell along Rice and Spruce Streets, remain in the public
ownership. The Board has asked whether or not the City was
interested in the ownership of this wetland, or if the County
should be given ownership.
Staff has checked with the Watershed to determine if they have an
interest in owning the wetland. Cliff Aichinger indicated since
the area is a designated wetland under their regulation, they are
not concerned about the ownership of the property. Cliff
indicated the County has ownership of many other wetlands of this
nature.
At Wednesday's meeting, Council should determine whether the City
is interested assuming ownership of the wetland. If not, the
Board of Water Commissioners will approach the County on the
issue. The Parks and Recreation Commission may want to comment
on this as well.
Page 72
