GORDON FORBES
601 EAST COUNTY ROAD 6 -2
ST. PAUL. MINNESOTA 55117
June 6, 1995
Mr. Joel Hanson
City Administrator
City of Little Canada
515 East Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mr. Hanson:
RECEIVED JUN 0 9 1995
With the coming of spring, the increasing congestion, speed and noise of
high - powered boats and jet skis is becoming more or a problem this year
than any other year I can remember. I have lived on Lake Gervais since
1966.
I realize these are public waters and all people should have access to them
and I support that. I have boats of my own. But they are slow moving
and of low horsepower that would not cause a safety problem nor be
offensive to others. I believe we have a developing problem in the south
end of Lake Gervais both from sedimentation from new construction on
Edgerton Street entering the bay and also increased noise and speed from
boat traffic.
I know that cities have little legal responsibility over public water. I am
aware, however, that in some cases, and I assume with permission from
the DNR, that controls have been made on the hours, noise limits, and
other considerations for mutual benefit of the public. It is a little difficult
when you are not using air conditioning, which we don't always do, to be
jolted out of bed at 6 o'clock in the morning from the noise of a 250hp
motor ripping around the lake. This increase in boat traffic is bound to
have an effect on the safety of the use of the public swimming beach at
Lake Gervais.
Page 76
