RECEIVED JUL 1 8 1995
TO: THE CITY OF LITTLE CANADA, ATT: JOEL HANSON
FROM: LT. JERRY BERGERON, RAMSEY COUNTY SHERIFF'S WATER PATROL
SUBJECT: "NO WAKE" ZONE ON GERVAIS LAKE
DATE: 7/14/95
Joel, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today, and to
discuss this safety issue on Gervais Lake. As we discussed, there
have been several complaints from Life Guards at Gervais Beach
concerning water craft coming dangerously close to the swimming
area, often times, at a high rate of speed. As we observed, this
area is some what confined and continued operation of water craft
in this manner in this area could result in a swimmer being stuck
by a runaway boat.
I believe that an efficient and effective remedy to this problem
may simply be to create a " No Wake " zone in the bay that the
beach is located. I believe that this can be accomplished through
an ordinance from the City of Little Canada, since this area lies
totally within the City.
I have contacted Ramsey County Parks And Recreation and The
Superintendent, Greg Mack, also thinks this is a good idea. Greg
also stated that the Parks Department will be willing to assist
with the purchase of necessary buoys to mark this area. Greg
believes that the cost of the buoys are about $70.00 to $80.00
apiece, but will check and let me know. If we can get the ordinance
in effect and the buoys secured, I will make sure that they get
placed in the lake.
If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. jtb
Page 78
