January 3, 1995
To: Joel Hansen, City Administrator and to the Members of the City Council of
Little Canada
From: Curtis Swanson, 2395 Reidmond Avenue
Re: Replacement of retaining wall at entrance to Dianna Lane
Attached is a petition requesting replacement of the retaining walls at the corner of Dianna
Lane and County Road B -2 with keystone blocks. Keystone blocks are the most desirable
materials for retaining walls for the following reasons:
1. Durability - Block walls should last 25 to 30 years.
2. Maintenance free.
3. Very attractive in appearance.
There was great concern regarding the one -to -one sloping wall:
1. Safety - Children could be sliding down the sloped wall into the street and
possibly be injured.
2. It would require quite a lot of maintenance from washing, etc.
3. The wild flowers, grasses and sumac planted would become a patch of weeds
after a few years.
4. This would not be a very attractive entrance to an area of very expensive homes.
I trust the council will respond favorably to the request of the petitioners.
Respectfully yours,
rSwanson " w)
Page 125
