VIKING DRIVE WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Citizen Information Meeting
November 21, 1994 6:30 pm
PROJECT SUMMARY
Scope: To provide City water to the residents on Viking Drive, east of Edgerton Avenue.
Cost: Alignment #1 (through the yards) = $94,300
Alignment #2 (along the south ditch) = $104,000
Revenue:
Assessments to residents:
City costs:
Align. #1 Align. #2
$41,400 $41,400
$52,900 $62,600
$94,300 $104,000
Since the Viking Drive water main issue was last addressed, the City has adopted a
new assessment policy for water main, limiting the assessed amount to approximately
$4,600 per buildable lot.
OTHER RELATED ISSUES
Street Improvements:
Should street improvements be considered in conjunction with this project (especially
if the "ditch alignment" is pursued, since some of the roadway will be removed and
replaced)? The current condition of the pavement is fair, and is beginning to
deteriorate at an accelerated pace.
The City's street policy states that all rural (no curb and gutter) streets should be
improved to urban standards (concrete curb and gutter). In doing so, the width of
Viking Drive would be increased from approximately 24 feet to 28 feet. Assessment
rates would be expected in the range of approximately $42.00 to $52.00 per front foot
of property ($4,200 to $5,200 for a typical 100 foot lot).
Page 9
