• Need to coordinate construction with the Minnesota
Department of Transportation for work within their right -of-
way
• Greater disruption to the street
• Longer service runs to your homes
Another issue in dealing with Alignment 2 relates to the
restoration of the street itself. The area that would disturbed
under this proposed alignment is a portion of the road which is
in fairly good shape. Some of the remaining portions of Viking
Drive are in very poor shape. These areas would not be restored.
A concern from the City's standpoint is spending dollars
restoring the good portion of the road while leaving a poor
roadway surface in other areas. Therefore, we think that a
street improvement should be considered in conjunction with this
alternative in that it may provide the best overall cost to the
project as well as the best end product for you as residents.
A street improvement for your area would typically consist of a
28 foot wide roadway including concrete curb and gutter. It
would also include the addition of any storm drainage system
necessary to collect water and remove it from the street surface.
In Viking Drive's case, some type of cul -de -sac would be needed
for a turn - around at the east end of the roadway. The cost for
this roadway is expected to be between $42.00 and $50.00 per
linear foot in addition to the water main assessment.
To assist us in determining the best course of action, I am
enclosing a survey document which gives you some choices to
consider. We would ask you to complete this survey and return it
to us by no later than Monday, December 19, 1994. The results
will indicate if you are interested in the water main improvement
at the estimated cost of $4600.00 per lot. It will also indicate
which design alternative you favor. Please keep in mind that if
you favor Alignment 2, which has less impact to private property,
the City may feel that a street reconstruction project then makes
the most sense.
Please review this information and complete this survey as
requested. Should you have any comments or questions regarding
this matter, please feel free to give me a call and I will be
happy to try and answer them.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to our request for
information.
Page 12
