ES
TY COUNCIL
JUNE 7, 1994
will be assessed. There has been no discussion about
assessing the cost of the Jackson Street trail
improvement or sidewalk improvement along Jackson /Old
County Road C /Lakeshore. Therefore, the City Council
is under no obligation to hold a public hearing if the
cost of the project will not be assessed. The Council
held the public review this evening in order to get the
reaction of the residents to the overall project.
Council discussed the width of the trail proposed along
Jackson Street. Wehrle pointed out that maintenance is
easier on an 8 foot width than 6 foot. Also,
construction equipment is geared to lay an 8 foot
width. Therefore, the cost of 6 feet versus 8 feet
will likely be the same.
The City Engineer reported that an 8 foot width
provides a multi- purpose trail and allows two people to
pass one another on the trail.
Morelan pointed out that an 8 foot width allows easy
access for cars unless the entrances are gated.
Wehrle pointed out that a post system could be
installed at the entrances to prevent vehicular access.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94 -6 -158 - ORDERING THE IMPROVEMENT OF
AN 8 -FOOT WIDE BITUMINOUS TRAIL ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF
JACKSON STREET RIGHT -OF -WAY FROM DEMONT AVENUE TO OLD
COUNTY ROAD C AND FROM OLD COUNTY ROAD C TO AUSTRALIAN
AVENUE AS PART OF THE UPCOMING ROAD IMPROVEMENT
PROJECTS IN THE AREA WITH THE INDICATION THAT THERE
WILL BE NO ASSESSMENT FOR THIS TRAIL IMPROVEMENT TO
PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE AREA
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Pedersen, Hanson, LaValle.
Nays (0).
Abstains (1) Morelan.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94 -6 -159 - DELETING THE PROPOSED
24
Page 8
