VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />MARCH 5 -12, 1995 <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service <br />organization, is celebrating its 99th year of service to the <br />people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore certainly <br />appropriate for us, the City of Little Canada, to join in the <br />observance of this milestone with the commemoration of March 5- <br />12, 1995 as Volunteers of America Week; and <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable <br />contribution by providing these services to adults and the <br />elderly: 6 homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br />dependent and /or elderly adults; congregate dining for seniors at <br />45 sites in Anoka and Hennepin Counties; transitional housing for <br />women and their families in Aitkin, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, <br />Mille Lacs, and Pine counties; home delivered meals for persons <br />60 years of age and over; semi - independent living services and <br />supported living services; 3 housing complexes for families, the <br />handicapped, and the elderly; and 4 long -term health care <br />facilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides these services for <br />children and youth: a children's daycare, programs serving <br />autistic, autistic -like, and /or developmentally disabled youth; <br />children's shelters; in -home services; 52 foster treatment homes <br />and correction group homes; a residential treatment center for <br />emotionally handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral program <br />for boys with severe problems; short -term after care for youth <br />with special needs; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides 2 correctional <br />services: a pre - release and work - release correctional program <br />serving men and a jail, workhouse and work - release correctional <br />program serving women; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff <br />and volunteers and the many people who help support their work <br />through financial contributions make a significant impact on the <br />lives of people in Little Canada; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding <br />in 1896 and urges others to join them in bridging the gap between <br />human needs and the resources of the public and private sector; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT <br />of the City of Little <br />5 -12, 1995, as <br />VOLUNTEERS <br />RESOLVED, that I, Michael I. Fahey, Mayor <br />Canada do hereby proclaim the week of March <br />OF AMERICA WEEK IN LITTLE CANADA <br />AND, BE IT RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be <br />transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of our <br />Page 2 <br />
