MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 6, 2014 <br />Don Smiley, Little Canada Fire Chief, reported that the Little Canada Fire <br />Department has been in existence for over 68 years and has a tradition of <br />giving back to the community. Some of those efforts include Canadian <br />Days, fundraising for the Salvation Army, and support of various City <br />projects. Smiley reported that the Little Canada Fire Department would <br />like to present the City with a check for $10,000 in support of the Veterans <br />Memorial. <br />Mayor Blesener thanked the Little Canada Fire Department for all that <br />they do to support the community, which goes well beyond fighting fires. <br />He noted that the Department has always supported the community and <br />that support is greatly appreciated. Blesener also thanked the Veterans <br />Committee for the terrific job that they are doing. <br />Montour noted that early in the process the City agreed to provide the <br />financial support to providing parking and curbing improvements for the <br />Veterans Memorial at the point that fund- raising was at the half -way point. <br />Montour indicated that that goal has been reached and suggested that the <br />Council order the completion of plans and specs for the improvements and <br />that bids then be obtained for these improvements. The City <br />Administrator concurred that funding is now at the half -way point. It was <br />noted that fund raising will continue and, if successful, the City's <br />contribution could be reduced or eliminated. <br />Montour also indicated that the Veterans Committee has decided that <br />paver bricks around the perimeter of the Memorial will be able to be <br />purchased by local businesses and organizations in honor of veterans. He <br />indicated that this will help in fund - raising efforts. <br />Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -1 -2 — AUTHORIZING THE VETERANS <br />COMMITTEE TO PROCEED WITH PREPARATION OF PLANS <br />AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE VETERANS MEMORIAL AND <br />AUTHORIZATION THE ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR THIS <br />PROJECT <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss. <br />Ayes (5). <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />Montour reported that if anyone is interested in more information on the <br />Veterans Memorial, they can visit the City's web site.
