Hanson <br />TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br />DATE: May 19, 1995 <br />RE: Land Availability -St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners <br />Staff of the St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners (City of St. <br />Paul) has contacted us about the potential sale of land under <br />their ownership that is located within our City. Apparently, the <br />Board of Water Commissioners is making a concerted effort to <br />dispose of property not needed for their operations in order to <br />return it to the tax rolls and help to fund needed capital <br />improvements. Two sites are located within Little Canada. They <br />are asking if we would be interested in either area and what land <br />uses would fit here. <br />Attached is a map which indicates the sites. You will note they <br />are located between Rice Street, Burlington Northern railroad <br />tracks, Spruce Street, and Country Drive. The first is <br />identified as the Spruce Street site. It is approximately 12 <br />acres in size and is heavily wooded. It has many natural <br />amenities that could make it a valuable site for someone who is <br />looking for a campus -type setting. The other is identified as <br />the Rice Street site. Obviously, its frontage along Rice Street <br />enhances its value. Topography could be a limiting concern. <br />The St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners is asking for our input <br />on these sites before they commence action to sell them. In <br />addition to any comments the Council may have, I would also <br />suggest we forward this information to our Parks and Recreation <br />Commission and Planning Commission for their suggestions. By <br />working with the Board of Water Commissioners, we may be able to <br />enhance each others' respective position. <br />Page 94 <br />
