Hanson
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: April 4, 2014
RE: Public Works /Park Facility Budget Update
5:00 p.m. Workshop
The Building Committee has been working with the Construction Manager and Architect to make
revisions to the building to lower the overall project costs. At a meeting this past Thursday, the
committee reviewed the list attached list (Attachment #1). Based on this review, $372,000 was removed
from the project. (Note: Some of them are equipment related and need to be provided for in a capital
improvement budget.) James Steele Construction then prepared a revised project budget. Staff reviewed
it and amended it based on costs were aware of. Mr. Corbett of JSC was out of the office today, so he
did not have a chance to verify these numbers.
When looking at the revised budget (Attachment #2), you will note we are still $616,422 over the #.4
million bond issue amount and that does not include land or some additional equipment we can fund
from other sources. We were hoping this number would be closer to $300,000 to $400,000. It should
also be noted that within the $616,422 amount is $278,000 of contingencies. Taking that amount away
leaves us $338,422 over the bond issue amount.
Troy Corbett of JSC, Thomas Stromsodt and Jeff Oertel of Oertel Architects and staff representatives
will be at Wednesday's workshop to answer questions regarding the current project and budget. We will
also have the overhead projector set up to review the appearances of the various options that have been
considered.
The Council will need to provide direction as to how we should proceed with funding of the project.
cc: Staff Committee Members
Troy Corbett, James Steele Construction
Thomas Stromsodt, Oertel Architects
