MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />APRIL 3, 2014 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & <br />Recreation Commission of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held <br />on the 3rd day of April, 2014, in the Council Chambers of the City Center <br />located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said city. <br />Chair Patti Sullivan called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the <br />following members of the commission were present: <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: <br />Ms. Patti Sullivan <br />Ms. Linda Fahey <br />Mr. Jeff Heikke <br />Mr. Tom Maida <br />Mr. Dave Miller <br />Mr. Kevin Steinert <br />ABSENT: Mr. Kong Vang <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Jim Morelan, Parks & Rec Dir. <br />Mr. Bill Sanders, Parks Consultant <br />Mr. Kevin Helander, Cable TV Prod. <br />Ms. Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk <br />MINUTES The Commission unanimously approved the minutes of the March 6, 2014 <br />meeting. <br />VETERANS Sanders reviewed the site plan for the Veterans Memorial project. He <br />MEMORIAL pointed out that one of the elements of the Memorial is a concrete walk <br />PROJECT through the park. Sanders reported that there has been discussion about <br />funding the concrete walk through the Parks Budget. Sanders noted that <br />the cost estimate for the concrete walk has increased from the initial <br />estimate of $25,000 to $34,800. Sanders also pointed out that the <br />discussion has been that the City would fund the parking and street <br />improvements at an estimated cost of $16,700 from the City Budget. <br />Sanders reported that to date the Veterans Memorial Committee has raised <br />about $35,000 through its fund- raising efforts. The total estimated cost of <br />the project is now at $139,523.75. Sanders indicated that the City Council <br />would like the project 50% funded before construction begins. Sanders <br />noted that there is currently a grant application for $15,000 pending. He <br />also indicated that Committee members are approaching various <br />businesses and organizations with fund - raising request. Sanders reported <br />that the Committee is still optimistic that the project can move forward <br />this year, with a groundbreaking on Memorial Day and a dedication <br />ceremony on Veterans Day. <br />
