Joel Hanson
From: Andrew Henderson < andrew.j.henderson84 @gmail.com>
Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2014 10:21 PM
To: Joel Hanson
Subject: Tobacco License Ordinance
Mr. Hanson,
Thank you for retuning my call.
I am sorry that I will not be able to make the City Council meeting as I am scheduled to give a talk to a media
law class at SCSU, but I would like my concerns heard by the council.
1 am concerned about the limitation on tobacco licenses by the City of Little Canada because of the restrictions
this ordinance places on the free market, entrepreneurs, and businesses seeking to expand.
As the memorandum dated April 3, 2014 from City Clerk Glanzer implies; there is a frequent need and want by
citizens and businesses to acquire tobacco licenses to either open a community business, or possibly expand
on one. This need and want should not be constrained, but rather the City should encourage new business,
and the growth of established retail outlets.
However, there are more options that are not considered or presented in this memorandum; and those are to
open the availability of more licenses to be available in the community, or to eliminate the cap on licenses to
better fit the needs and wants of the people, entrepreneurs, and businesses in the City of little Canada.
It is my hope that the City Council will consider the options not presented in this memorandum and work to
change this ordinance to better suit the interests and wishes of the citizens.
Andrew J Henderson
2
