MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 9, 2014
16. Provide scuppers /downspouts in lieu of internal roof drains.
Estimated savings $25,000. The Review Committee was in support.
There was discussion about the differences in scuppers /downspouts and
internal roof drains with it noted that scuppers /downspouts would result in
running drainage over the land. It was felt, however, that given the
location of these scuppers /downspouts, this was an acceptable alternative.
17. Remove make up air unit in wash bay, provide transfer ducts.
Estimated savings $15,000. The Review Committee found this change
acceptable. Corbett noted that the individual air units would remove
humid air out of the building. Oertel felt that transfer ducts were not an
acceptable alternative and this change could cause a problem during the
winter months. Corbett indicated that the transfer ducts will remove
humid air; the question was how quickly it would be removed. Corbett
suggested that additional review of this item be done, and it was suggested
that there could be a compromise solution. This item was left open at this
time.
18. Change lube system to 55 gallon drum with manual pumps.
Estimated savings $10,000. Review Committee was in support of this
change. It was noted that a lube system can be added to the building at
any time.
19. Remove vehicle exhaust system, use hose through wall. Estimated
savings $20,000. Review Committee was in support. Corbett indicated
that there are lower tech methods for addressing this issue. It was noted
that in viewing other public works garage projects, there were some cities
that had this system and did not make use of it.
20. Allow for a portion of the building on emergency generator panel.
Estimated cost savings $10,000. The Review Committee left this item
open. Corbett noted that the City will have the opportunity to decide what
items would be on the emergency generator panel.
21. Remove conduit /panelboard for future fuel island. Estimated
savings $5,000. The Review Committee has indicated support for this
reduction. Corbett felt it unlikely that the City would add a fuel island in
the future.
22. Provide one make up air unit in vehicle storage in lieu of two.
Estimated savings $5,000. The Review Committee rejected this reduction.
Stromsodt indicated that one make up air unit could be removed in the
wash bay and two should be retained in the vehicle storage area.
4
