515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
w w w, c i.l i t tl e -ca na d a. m n. u s
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Biesener & Members of the City Council
FROM: .Toe► Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: May 9, 2014
RE: Public Works /Park Facility Update
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Reis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Design Development work is proceeding for the new building. ht the meantime, two
items need attention:
First, our Construction Manager, James Steele Construction, feels we can save some
money by demolishing the buildings on the property at this time versus combining
demolition with other site work. Therefore, they are obtaining quotes for this work that
are due in at 4:00 next Tuesday. We will review the pricing with them Wednesday
morning and have a recommendation available for Wednesday night's meeting.
The second item relates to the ground contamination on the site discovered during our
soil borings. We have been following the steps for handling this material properly
including the preparation of a Development Response Action Plan that was filed with the
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. PCA called this week and is concerned about
possible ground water contamination that they Peel needs to be monitored. They are
asking if we want to participate in the Voluntary Pollution Control & Investigation
program (VPIC). Doing so entitles us to receive 90% state funding for any work
required. At this point in time, they would like to have monitoring wells installed on the
property. They have informed me this will not inhibit the construction of the new
building. The Council needs to approve our participation in this program.
cc: Oertel Architects
James Steele Construction, Inc.
Elfering & Associates
