• As discussed above, staff will get quotes for the manhole repair work and make a
recommendation to the Council as to which method to use.
• Staff will contact the City of Maplewood regarding its sump pump program and
encourage that it re- inspect the properties that flow into Little Canada.
• "There are at least two service laterals that are leaking due to cracks in the pipe.
One of them is the significant leak of up to 20 gallons per minute as mentioned
above. There are methods to repair the service without digging up the yard. Staff
would propose that once we have inspected the sump pumps we obtain quotes for
repairing the services that are known to be leaking and have them repaired. This
has been discussed in the past and the consensus was that the benefit to the City is
great enough to warrant paying for the repairs even though they are in the
property owners' service laterals. This could also be considered an assessable
cost given the homeowner is responsible for the service. Once quotes have been
obtained a recommendation will be made to the City Council.
• While not groundwater related, staff will proceed with the budgeted wet well and
force main work in 2014 to improve the efficiency of the lift station. These
repairs are necessary even if all groundwater issues are solved.
There is money in the budget for the manhole repair work and the sump pump
inspections will be staff time only. The only unbudgeted item would be the service
lateral repair if the City proceeds with that work, but there should be sufficient funds in
the sanitary sewer budget to pay for this work.
