Heather M Lindberg
2310 Stephani Court
Little Canada, MN 55117
May 19, 2014
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road East
Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
Dear City Planner,
I recently found out I must submit a request for a Special Home Occupation Permit as it relates to the City
of Little Canada zoning code 903.120 Home Occupations.
My business — Denarius Human Resources, Inc. — conducts studies of how much employees are paid
(i.e., compensation and benefits surveys). My clients are businesses, not individuals, and include such
organizations as Cargill, CHS Inc., Fairview Health Services, Mayo Clinic, and associations among others
located in Minnesota, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, and other states.
Client survey requests range from one job with eight organizations reporting information to 400+ jobs with
250 organizations participating (see attached sample pages). I receive requests by email and in a few
cases by phone. The tools I use to conduct these surveys include email, computer, printer, telephone, fax
machine, and internet (websites for describing services — www.denariusinc.com — and for posting
participation forms — www.denariussurvevs.com). Clients do not come to my home for meetings or to
make requests; most are located outside of the Twin Cities. If a client wants to meet, I go to them.
Given the number and scope of surveys that I conduct, I need the help of a part-time college student to
work on average 8 to 15 hours per week during the school year and 20 to 30 hours during the summer.
Currently his school schedule allows him to work on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to
approximately 12 noon. The number of hours worked depends on if there is survey work available. He
helps by downloading participation forms received via email (for example up to 200 responses for one
survey request), entering data into databases, completing simple analyses using Excel, and doing other
administrative tasks associated with conducting surveys.
Given the nature of my business, the work I do from my home does not violate any of the provisions in
903.120.D.1 — General Provisions as described below. I do need one part-time college student who is
not a residence of my home (903.120.D.2a).
• The computer work does not produce any noise or vibrations and does not create any electrical
interference for my neighbors;
• I do not have any signs on the exterior or interior which are visible from the outside of my home;
• I do not have any exterior storage of equipment;
• I did not change any construction features within my home (I use one room in the lower level as an
office space);
• If I need assistance, the college student will work during "regular" office hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• He will park his car in my driveway and not on the street.
I appreciate your consideration of this request. If you need any additional information, please let me
know.
.._Respectfully yours, A
.
/I -feather Lindbeiy';
