t111RING liSSO(ITITtS
Memo
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council Members
FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
DATE: July 3, 2014
RE: Miscellaneous Concrete/Paver Work & Tower Valve Replacement
Tower Valve Replacement
We anticipate receiving quotes for the installation of the valve on the Water Tower line
early next week in time for presentation at the July 91h Council meeting. As outlined in a
previous memo in addition to adding a new valve to the line we will be directing the
Contractor to expose sufficient watermain to verify depth and to make any necessary
corrections to accommodate future wall construction. In addition to the bid for the valve
installation we are requesting an hourly rate for time and material payment of the
additional work because the extent of the needed excavation and materials is unknown.
Pioneer Park Pavers/Concrete
Quotes to complete paver repairs around the Pioneer Park building were presented at
the last Council meeting. There was some discussion as to the cost of the paver repairs
in comparison to complete removal of the pavers and replacement with concrete. Based
on that discussion we are in the process of obtaining quotes for the complete removal of
the paver area and replacement with concrete. We hope to have these quotes by the
July 9'h meeting for further discussion and direction on the course of action for the area.
Spooner Park & City Hall Concrete Work
We have obtained quotes for the concrete work at City Hall and at the Spooner Park
shelter. The work at the shelter included the replacement of damaged concrete and
addition of concrete around the shelter to address landscaping and drainage issues.
The work at City Hall included curb repair, median modifications, and the complete
removal and replacement of the entrance concrete. The original quotes were for plain
white concrete installation at all locations. We understand that there may be a desire to
utilize colored and/or stamped concrete for the City Hall entrance area and we are
asking for revised quotes with those pricing options for the City Council to consider. We
will provide these costs as soon as they are obtained,
If you have any questions concerning this information, please call me at (763) 780-0450.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blaine, MN 55449 -- Ph: (763) 780-0450 Fax (763) 780-0452
Memo -070914 -CC (Miscellaneous Update)
