MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766-4029 / FAX: (651) 766-4048 ADMINISTRATOR
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us Joel R. Hanson
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Blesener & Members of City Council
From: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
Date: July 18, 2014
Re: Crack Sealing
Quotes have been obtained for crack sealing work throughout the City. This year we
have about 15,000 linear feet of road to crack seal, which should equate to roughly 5,000
to 7,000 pounds of material. Last year the City crack filled 31,000 linear feet of roads
along with five parking lots.
Quotes were solicited from Minnesota Roadways, Gopher State Seal Coating, and
Northwest Asphalt Maintenance. They submitted the following bids:
Minnesota Roadways
Gopher State Seal Coating
Northwest Asphalt
No quote submitted
No quote submitted
$1.28/lb.
Northwest Asphalt did the crack sealing in the City last year for $1.25/1b. They have
been the low quote several other years, have always done acceptable work, and are
familiar with the City. Northwest Asphalt has always been well below other contractors
with their quotes and that may be what contributed to the other two companies not
submitting quotes. A list of the streets to be sealed has been included.
Staff recommends awarding the 2014 Crack Filling project to Northwest Asphalt
Maintenance.
