MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 18, 2014
when they have been drinking and attending a concert. Dorn felt that
people walking to and from off-site parking was a safety concern. He also
noted that parking would occur within about 30 feet of the senior housing.
Dorn felt that the location proposed was not a good location for this type
of business.
Kathy Clemons, Little Canada Road resident, agreed with Dorn's
comments and indicated that there was no comparison between the train
noise and the type of noise that would be generated from a live music
venue.
Roger Stanke, Little Canada business owner and resident, suggested there
was no need to pursue this proposal further given the Code related to off-
street parking. Stanke also indicated that he felt Little Canada had enough
restaurants and bars. He felt that consideration should be given to the
senior citizens that would be living adjacent to Voodoo Live, and
suggested that the senior housing would never have been developed in this
area if Voodoo Live already existed. Stanke felt that Little Canada did not
currently have enough police protection, and suggested that someone
check with the Maplewood Police Department to determine how many
police calls are generated by The Myth. Stanke noted that there are
several empty locations in the Twin Cities that would be more appropriate
for Voodoo Live.
Tom Duray, Little Canada business owner and resident, reported that he
had concerns as a taxpayer relative to the additional costs in police
protection that the City would incur as a result of Voodoo Live. He noted
that during live music events there would be 500 to 900 people coming
and leaving the site in question. He indicated that he discussed this with
the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department as well as the Roseville Police
Department both of which indicated that an additional officer or two
would need to be added during the hours of 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Duray
noted that many people will remember Mingles at the Saxon Lanes and the
type of problems that this nightclub generated. Duray thought that the
capacity for Mingles was 300 people. Duray felt that the location
proposed was not the right location for this type of venue. He indicated
that he was not making these comments because of concern for
competition with his business. Duray felt that it was a quality of life issue
for the area.
Richard Boss, 57 Bryan Avenue, indicated that he lives across the railroad
tracks from where Voodoo Live is being proposed. Boss indicated that his
neighborhood has been compromised by the trains, and pointed out the
City's efforts to get quiet zones established. Boss indicated that it was his
opinion that the Voodoo Live proposal was out of line for the
18
