MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
June 4, 2015
PIONEER PARK
PONDING -
EDUCATIONAL
PLAQUES
ICE CREAM
SOCIAL
EAGLE SCOUT
PROJECT
ADJOURN
sidewalk could sit behind the hydrant. Another member mentioned the
Historical Society would like to have a drinking fountain and hose connection
for watering the garden, on the corner of Gervais Mill Park and Noel Drive.
The Commission agreed this would be a good idea.
Last month the City Engineer looked into having the Watershed provide
funding for plaques around the pond which included a description of the
surrounding environmental benefits. The City Engineer mentioned at this
time the Watershed had no additional funds for the educational plaques in
Pioneer Park, but would be happy to help write up verbage for the signs.
This year's ice cream social will be held on July 30th, in Spooner Park from
6:30pm to 8:OOpm. Sullivan and Fahey reported the Puppet wagon will be at
the event as well as the fire trucks. The Director is working on getting some
clowns to come. Sullivan and Fahey also reported they have not heard back
from the K-9 Unit, but everything is coming together nicely.
Cory Huot appeared before the Commission last month, and reported that he
is working on his Eagle project and is proposing the concept of erecting a
shade canopy or sun shade over the picnic table area at Veterans Memorial
Park. He presented some concepts for the Commission's review. One
involves a roof over the picnic table area and the other a lattice structure.
There are two options for the lattice structure, one would be an open lattice
and the other with a material over the lattice which would provide more sun
screening.
Last month, the Commission asked Huot to look into construction and costs
of the shade canopy and bring that back to the Commission. The
Commission has not heard from Huot, but wanted the Director to send him
an email asking about the budget and plan. Maida noted he found quite a few
inexpensive Pergolas on the Home Depot website and thought that would be
good for Huot to look into. The Commission thought it would be a good idea
to send that information to Huot as well. The Director will follow up with
Huot.
Maida moved the meeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Sullivan
Motion carried 5 — 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
4
