MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
Febraary 1,2007
from the edge of the wetland to serve as a buffer. They also indicated that they would work
with us to narrow the distance depending on the specific circumstances.
Sanders presented a plan showing how a proposed trail would look in the area. The
Commission felt that it was acceptable for Johnson to sell the easterly 50 feet of his property to
flee Maplewood residents, with the exception of the area adjacent to the Ostertag and Mogren
properties where only 35 feet of property should be sold. This would save the city a lot of
money in boardwalk costs. After some discussion, the Commission felt the following park
charge options were acceptable:
If Johnson would like to give the city a trail easement, then the Commission would want to
accept the cash park charge per lot as well since the city would not be acquiring any land.
2. If Johnson would rather give the Commission 10% of his land as the park charge, then the
Commission would want the 10% that is west of the 50/35 foot parcel that would be sold to
the Maplewood residents.
Sanders felt that some restrictions should be placed on the property that is sold to the
Maplewood residents to prevent them from cutting down trees, building a shed on it, etc. He
felt the property should be left in its natural state. The Director felt that the Maplewood
residents would approve of this since they wanted the property so that it would be left alone.
Mans felt that it was a good idea to document this restriction for future property owners.
Maus reco»:mended allowing Jolznson to sell the easterly SO feet of iris land to the
Maplewood residents, with the exception of the area adjacent to the Ostertag and Mogre~a
properties where only 35 feet of property can be sold, and with the understanding that
restrictions will be placed on this property so that tlae owners must leave the property in its
natural state. If Johnson wants to give a trail easement to the city as his pm•k charge, then
the cash park charge per lot must be payable as well. If Johnson would rather give 10% of
his land as his park charge, then the 10% should be west of the 50/35 foot parcel that will be
sold to the Maplewood residents.
Motion seconded by Steinwell.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
SKATING Mans stated that the children's skating party has been rescheduled due to the cold temperature.
PARTY The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2007, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
OTHER Reports on the following were also made:
BUSINF,SS
The correctional persomzel have been working on removal of Buckthorn, especially in
Spooner Park.
