MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 10, 2007
PARKS The Director indicated that the wooden playground equipment at Thunder
Bay Park is deteriorating and is in need of replacement. The LCRA has
agreed to fund the replacement of playground structures as needed.
Allan asked what structures are being repainted. The Director reported
that the playground structures in Pioneer Park and Spooner Park are being
repainted. The original paint lasted 15 to 20 years. The new paint is
warranted for five years.
The Director indicated that there has been a lot of vandalism in Rondeau
Park with graffiti being painted on the trails, basketball court surface, and
equipment. The Parks Department feels that it is some younger kids from
the area. All damages have been photographed and turned over to the
Sheriff's Department. Efforts will continue to be made to identify those
responsible.
ON-LINE The Director reported that on-line registration has been very successful,
REGISTRATION and the department will be eliminating evening on-site registration.
WATERSHED Davis reported that the City has a good relationship with the Ramsey
DISTRICT Washington Watershed District. The Watershed currently has a group of
volunteers that are looking for some projects to support the City's natural
resources. She also noted that the Watershed sponsored a neighborhood
get together for National Night Out.
The Director reported that the Watershed has provided a lot of assistance
to the City's Parks Department, and that was the case even prior to their
moving to Little Canada. He noted that LCRA funded the replanting of
areas around the Pioneer Park entrance on Centerville Road. The
Watershed put together a plan for this replanting.
Blesener felt that the plantings and drainage area between the Watershed
property and Norm's Tire Sales looked good. There was hope expressed
that the green roof would be more successful.
PARK It was suggested that as part of updating the Park Master Plan, that the
MASTER Commission look at whether or not there was a need for a play area in
PLAN the LaBore Road area in addition to trails through this area. Fahey noted
that as this area develops, there will be issues with the displacement of
wildlife.
6
