Hanson For Wednesday's information update workshop, we have a number of topics to review (time permitting). They are as follows: Social Media: In providing his assistance to the City's sponsorship of a City Wide Garage Sale, Council Member Torkelson set up a Facebook page for the event. It generated quite a bit of interest in a short amount of time that aided in the event's promotion. The Council wanted to spend more time on this topic to determine if we want to utilize social media for increased citizen engagement. Attached as Exhibit #1 is the previous information we have compiled on this topic. Staff has also updated our previous survey of social media usage by neighboring cities which is included in this packet of material. Staff has also visited the communities Facebook Pages to update the number of "likes" from the information provided a couple of years ago to help you gauge the effectiveness of this tool. Other new material added is information obtained at last week's League of Minnesota Cities' Annual Conference. Council Member Torkelson and Mayor Keis attended this session as can provide additional insight. Finally, Council Member Fischer wanted to discuss "Nextdoor" as another community communication tool. Swimming Pools: Staff is dealing with two recent complaints involved unused swimming pools. With the recent events in St. Paul involving abandoned pools, there is a heightened public awareness of their potential safety issues. (See Exhibit #2 for photos of these situations.)
