Hanson The City of Little Canada used to maintain a wood chip pile at the extreme south end of the Public Works Garage property across the street from Bwana Archery. MN/Dot purchased that land as part of the Unweave the Weave project in 2005. In those days, Precision Tree was dumping their woodchips on the pile and the size of the pile was pretty substantial on some occasions. Since the pile was eliminated Precision Tree has found new places to get rid of their chips but the Parks and Public Works Departments still do a fair amount of tree trimming throughout the City and need a place to dump the wood chips generated during these operations. Most of the trimming jobs performed by City staff result in one to five small dump truck loads of wood chips. Staff is proposing to dump those chips at the Public Works Garage south of the employee parking lot and make them available for free to residents of the City. In the past, the wood chip pile was completely gone in a matter of days after a load was dumped. Staff is recommending the granting of an interim use permit allowing the storage of wood chips on its Public Works Garage site for access by Little Canada residents. The pile will be small and will only include chips generated by City staff in tree trimming operations. There will only be a pile when tree trimming operations are performed and no contractors will be allowed to dump chips at the site.
