,~pfCNUTES <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />October 4, 2007 <br />There is a planned drainage rain garden planned for the Steinert residence at 693 Labore Road. <br />Steinert will be responsible for taking care of the rain garden. <br />Dauis questioned when the construction would begin on the project. Benning predicted it would <br />begin in the spring of 2008 after the road restrictions are lifted. <br />Neis recommended accepting cash for a per lot park charge in lieu of a land dedication for a <br />park in the Whispering Pines Development. <br />Motion seconded by Steinwall. <br />Motion carried 5 - 0. <br />WORKSHOP The Director announced that they would be having a workshop with the City Council on <br />WITH CITY October 10, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. The Director suggested that they put together a list of <br />COUNCIL suggested topics to discuss with the council members at this workshop. Other purposes for the <br />workshop meeting are to work on goals, express the Commission's intentions and ask if the <br />Council had any suggestions or requests of the Commission. Mans stated he would be out of <br />town and would be unable to attend the workshop. <br />Suggested topics for discussion at the workshop: (Agenda as Attachment A) <br />1. Skateboard Park. The Director and Bill Bach with Earl F. Anderson Company plan to be in <br />attendance to explain the popularity of skateboard parks and the necessary requirements for ..__. <br />building and maintaining the structure. <br />2. Trail System. Mans stated there was a need to again work on the trails system. The <br />Waterworks Trail on the north side of South Owasso Boulevard is being torn up by St. Paul <br />Regional Water Services. The Director explained that they were digging wells and <br />installing pumps to supplement surface water. They have already done three and plan to do " <br />an additional three. Mans stated that the trail under the Xcel Power Line connecting <br />Thunder Bay to Maplewood seems to be at a standstill. The Director reported that the two <br />cities have yet to form a Joint Powers Agreement that will allow the project to go out for <br />bids. Mans stated there is a need to have a trail that would extend from Little Canada Road <br />to the Waterworks Trail at South Owasso Boulevard along Country Drive. Davis <br />commented that there is also a need to complete the North Suburban Bike Trail system to <br />extend from the city of Shoreview to the Gateway Trail. <br />3. Parks. There is a need to improve the playground equipment at the Thunder Bay Westwinds <br />Park. The Director also noted that there has been an increase of vandalism at the Rondeau <br />Park. <br />4. On-Line Registration. Mans commented that the system is working very well for parents to <br />register their children for the sports activities using the Internet. <br />5. Watershed District. Davis felt the Commission has developed a strong working partnership <br />with the Ramsey/Washington County Watershed District. <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />
