,~pfCNUTES Park & Recreation Commission October 4, 2007 There is a planned drainage rain garden planned for the Steinert residence at 693 Labore Road. Steinert will be responsible for taking care of the rain garden. Dauis questioned when the construction would begin on the project. Benning predicted it would begin in the spring of 2008 after the road restrictions are lifted. Neis recommended accepting cash for a per lot park charge in lieu of a land dedication for a park in the Whispering Pines Development. Motion seconded by Steinwall. Motion carried 5 - 0. WORKSHOP The Director announced that they would be having a workshop with the City Council on WITH CITY October 10, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. The Director suggested that they put together a list of COUNCIL suggested topics to discuss with the council members at this workshop. Other purposes for the workshop meeting are to work on goals, express the Commission's intentions and ask if the Council had any suggestions or requests of the Commission. Mans stated he would be out of town and would be unable to attend the workshop. Suggested topics for discussion at the workshop: (Agenda as Attachment A) 1. Skateboard Park. The Director and Bill Bach with Earl F. Anderson Company plan to be in attendance to explain the popularity of skateboard parks and the necessary requirements for ..__. building and maintaining the structure. 2. Trail System. Mans stated there was a need to again work on the trails system. The Waterworks Trail on the north side of South Owasso Boulevard is being torn up by St. Paul Regional Water Services. The Director explained that they were digging wells and installing pumps to supplement surface water. They have already done three and plan to do " an additional three. Mans stated that the trail under the Xcel Power Line connecting Thunder Bay to Maplewood seems to be at a standstill. The Director reported that the two cities have yet to form a Joint Powers Agreement that will allow the project to go out for bids. Mans stated there is a need to have a trail that would extend from Little Canada Road to the Waterworks Trail at South Owasso Boulevard along Country Drive. Davis commented that there is also a need to complete the North Suburban Bike Trail system to extend from the city of Shoreview to the Gateway Trail. 3. Parks. There is a need to improve the playground equipment at the Thunder Bay Westwinds Park. The Director also noted that there has been an increase of vandalism at the Rondeau Park. 4. On-Line Registration. Mans commented that the system is working very well for parents to register their children for the sports activities using the Internet. 5. Watershed District. Davis felt the Commission has developed a strong working partnership with the Ramsey/Washington County Watershed District. Page 2 of 5
