MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />May 7, 2009 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission <br />of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, was held on the 7th day of May, 2009, in the conference <br />room of the city center located at 515 Little Canada Road East in said city. <br />Chair Linda Fahey called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the following members of the <br />commission were present: <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Ms. Linda Fahey, Chair <br />Ms. Ruth Steinwall <br />Ms. Patti Sullivan <br />Mr. Tom Maida <br />Mr. Dan Slain <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Mr. Kevin Steinert <br />Mr. Katie Lolmaugh <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mr. James Morelan, Park & Recreation Director <br />Ms. Dotty Norgard, Recording Secretary <br />MINUTES: Slain made a motion to approve the Apri12, 2009 minutes, seconded by Maida. Motion carried <br />5-0. <br />NEW <br />BUSINESS: PARKS FOUNDATION- Guest Speaker, Monte Johnson <br />Monte Johnson, President of the Roseville Central Park Foundation, was introduced and spoke <br />on the foundation's history. He said it started in 1964 and he has been a member since 1979. <br />The board of officers consists of 21 members, with 7 positions up for election each year, serving <br />two year terms. <br />Johnson distributed copies of the Foundation's Mission Statement, which simply states their <br />purpose is to develop, enhance and promote Roseville Central Park. He described the many <br />areas of Central Park, stating there are 225 acres, spanning from Lexington Avenue to almost <br />Western Avenue, between County Road B2 and C. In 1964 it was mostly marshland. The City <br />of Roseville designated the land as park land and fill was added to make it into a city park. With <br />the assistance of other community club groups and individual donations it continued to expand. <br />The success of the Park is dependent on partnerships with the City of Roseville and many other <br />foundations and organizations, along with individuals and individual groups. <br />He continued stating that most of the business work is handled within committees. There is a <br />committee for each separate part of the park. Each board member has to serve on at least two <br />committees. He proudly stated that board meetings only last amaximum ofninety-one minutes. <br />The Foundation has sponsored an annual fund-raising event since 1986, along with selling <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />
