1
CITY OF LINO LAKES
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES

DATE: August 6, 2015

MEMBERS
PRESENT: Nathan Vojtech, Lou Masonick, Chad Wagner, Thomas Colgan, Tami Wier,
Don Johnson

MEMBERS
ABSENT: Rebecca Glewwe, Julie Schwartz.

OTHERS PRESENT: Michael Grochala, Keith Dahl

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

It was moved by T. Wier to approve the minutes of June 11, 2015. The motion was seconded by
N. Vojteck and passed unanimously.

FIRE STATION UPDATE

Mr. Swenson, Director of Public Safety, gave the committee a synopsis of where the
construction is at for the new City of Lino Lakes fire station as well as, the training of personal,
equipment that Lino Lakes owns, and the federal grant process to acquire further funding for
more necessary equipment.

LEGACY AT THE WOODS EDGE (City Property)

Mr. Grochala, Director, discussed an overview of Legacy at the Woods Edge, a city owned
property, at the intersection of Interstate 35W and Lake Drive. There is roughly 20 acres
remaining in the Planned Unit Development that contains the YMCA, civic offices, apartments,
assisted living, a bank, and a medical facility. Available for development are three blocks
referenced as the Urban Block, Neighborhood Block, and Town Square Block.

As for the overview, development of the Neighborhood Block was the main topic discussed. Mr.
Grochala explained the pros and cons of short-term development goals as well as, long-term
development goals while capturing the maximum investment for the property.

The committee discussed many topics concerning the Neighborhood Block development
including whether the City of Lino Lakes should retain the investment longer to increase market
value, the type of residential housing that should be developed (townhouses, detached
townhouses, or apartments) with flexibility, and if the infrastructure surrounding Legacy at the
Woods Edge will allow for the town center development Lino Lakes is pursuing.
