I just want to make sure I understand that the city is suggesting that the residents of my
neighborhood utilize Rice Lake Elementary, which is outside ybur stated 1/4 mile - 1/2 mile radius (Spirit Hills is actually
.75 miles from RLE) for park service area, for our park needs. If so, is the School District aware of this suggestion and
does this fit into district security protocol? If so, my wife and daughter look forward to using the park during the school
day.
I am surprised that you find that park size to not be viable, and I am confident that the residents of other developments
in other cities that have neighborhood parks would be surprised by your assertion. This is a continued reflection on what
the city prioritizes compared to neighboring cities such as Shoreview which has a neighborhood park in the Ponds
development that is smaller than this one. I'd feel better as a parent of children at Rice Lake if the city leveraged this
potential park space rather than suggesting it's okay for the general public to be on school property to utilize the park
there.
I've included a link to the one acre park just south of the Lino Lakes border.
City of Shoreview : Ponds Park.
City of Shoreview : Ponds Park
Thanks,
Jeremy
1
