<br />WS – Item 5 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item No. 5 <br /> <br /> <br />Date: July 5, 2016 <br /> <br />To: City Council <br /> <br />From: Jeff Karlson <br /> <br />Re: Office Specialist Position <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The Administrative Assistant in Community Development, Nicole DeDeyn, will be on a <br />12-week maternity leave at the end of the month, which will leave a huge gap in our <br />support staff over the summer. This is particularly an inopportune time with elections <br />coming up. <br /> <br />I am proposing that Office Specialist Mary Fogarty be reinstated to full-time hours <br />beginning August 1st. Due to budget cuts in the 2016 budget, Mary’s position was <br />reduced to a half-time position at the beginning of the year. Ms. DeDeyn has less than 40 <br />hours of banked leave, so there would be no additional cost to the City. Ms. Fogarty <br />currently receives unemployment benefits for her lost wages and waives health insurance <br />coverage. <br /> <br />I also want to point out that given the increased workload in utility billing, staff is also <br />proposing that Mary continue to work full-time after Nicole returns, with one-half of her <br />hours being charged to the sewer and water funds. <br /> <br />Requested Council Direction <br /> <br />Approve the reinstatement of Mary Fogarty to full-time hours. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />None <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
