CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM lE <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Katie Larsen, City Planner <br />MEETING DATE: July 11, 2016 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 16-68, Comprehensive Sign Plan <br />Amendment for Apollo Center (550 Lilac Street) <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Morteza Salehi-Mashaei, owner of Apollo Center, requested an amendment to their <br />Comprehensive Sign Plan. The property is located at 550 Lilac Street. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Section 1010.007(12) requires multi -occupancy businesses prepare a comprehensive sign plan <br />for the entire building. These plans and amendments require Council approval. <br />(12) Multi -occupancy business and industrial buildings. When a single principle <br />building is devoted to three or more businesses or industrial uses, a comprehensive sign <br />plan for the entire structure shall be submitted and shall be of sufficient scope and detail to <br />permit a determination as to whether or not the plan is consistent with the following <br />regulations. The plan shall be subject to the approval of the City Council. No permit shall <br />be issued for an individual use except upon a determination that it is consistent with the <br />approved comprehensive sign plan. <br />(a) The maximum individual tenant sign sizes for multiple occupancy structures <br />and individual uses which may display signs shall not exceed the maximum provisions for <br />single occupancy structures in the same zoning district. <br />(b) Multiple occupancy structures may display an area identification sign <br />consistent with the applicable district provisions. Individual freestanding signs identifying <br />the tenants' business shall not be displayed. Twenty-five percent of the area identification <br />sign must idents the entire site, the balance of the sign may be used for individual tenant <br />identification. <br />(c) Except as provided in this chapter, individual tenants of multiple occupancy <br />structures shall not display separate wall signs unless the tenants' business has an exclusive <br />exterior entrance.
