<br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 1D <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Lisa Hogstad-Osterhues, Deputy City Clerk <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: August 8, 2016 <br /> <br />TOPIC Consider Resolution No. 16-77, Approving a <br />Special Event and Parade Permit for Ethan’s Reason 5K <br />Run and 1 Mile Walk <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Ethan’s Reason is a 5k run and 1 mile walk scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016 from <br />7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 100% of the proceeds will go to the non-profit organization, Ethan’s <br />Reason, which will be used to help to forward the mission of advancing research, education, and <br />public awareness of Batten Disease and rare diseases and to support individuals and families who <br />have been affected by Batten Disease and rare diseases. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />This is the third year the event will be taking place. It is a 5K Run and 1 mile walk/roll staring at <br />Centennial Middle School and running along the routes indicated on the attached map. There <br />will be bathrooms available at the school as well as basic first aid. There will be garbage cans <br />placed midway through the course where water will be provided. <br /> <br />A special event application requesting city permission to conduct this activity has been submitted <br />to the city. <br /> <br />A Certificate of Liability and Insurance coverage has been submitted to cover this event. <br /> <br />It is anticipates there will be approximately 150 participants; the proposed route for the parade <br />would be starting at Centennial Middle School, to Elm Street, to Cinnamon Teal Court, to Ivy <br />Ridge Lane, to Rice Lake Lane, back to Elm Street to the middle school property where the <br />staging area will be located. <br /> <br />The Public Safety Department has reviewed the application and have signed off on the permit <br />with the understanding that the applicants will continue to follow their instructions on safety. <br />The applicant must also have in place all necessary permissions for use of property involved in <br />the event. <br />
