<br />WS – Item 4 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item No. 4 <br /> <br />Date: January 7, 2012 <br /> <br />To: City Council <br /> <br />From: Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br /> <br />Re: Off -Sale Liquor Licenses <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />In December the council requested that staff report on off -sale liquor licensing in Lino Lakes. <br /> <br />I n the city t here a re currently seven approved off -sale liquor licenses (including G -Will <br />Liquor s that is n ot yet built) and one off -sale 3.2 (beer) license. There is one additional off - <br />sale liquor license and one off -sale gr owler license that will be presented to the council in <br />Janua ry. The locations of existing and proposed licenses ar e noted on the attached map. <br /> <br />A survey of surround ing cities provided the following information regarding their regulations <br />on off -sale lice nses: <br /> <br /> Centerville (pop 3,792), no limitation on number/proximity other than state law; <br /> Circle Pines (pop 4,918), no limitation on number/proximity other than state law; <br /> Blaine (pop. 57,186), one license per 7,000; one license allowed within one -mile <br />radiu s; <br /> New Brighton (pop. 21,456), one license per 5,000; one license allowed within one - <br />mile radius; <br /> Shoreview (pop. 25,043), one license per 5,000, no restriction on proximity; <br /> Coon Rapids (pop. 61,476), have Class A and Class B; Class A licenses limited to 8 <br />and proximity limited to one -mile radius; Class B limited to 2 and proximity limited <br />to two -mile radius; <br /> Forest Lake (pop. 18,375), maximum of 10 licenses; no restrictions based on <br />population or proximity; <br /> White Bear Lake (pop. 23,797), no limitation on number/proximity other than sta t e <br />law; <br /> Anoka (pop. 17,142), municipal liquor only. <br /> <br />Requested Council Direction <br /> <br />Council direction regarding off -sale liquor licensing in the city. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />Map <br />
