<br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 6A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Diane Hankee, City Engineer <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: December 12, 2016 <br /> <br />TOPIC : Resolution No. 16-173, Accepting Quotes and Awarding a <br />Construction Contract, 2016 Surface Water Maintenance Project <br />and Establishing a Surface Water Maintenance Fund <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 Vote Required <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Staff is requesting authorization to accept quotes and award the construction contract for the <br />2016 Surface Water Maintenance Project, in addition to establishing a Surface Water <br />Maintenance Fund. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Quotes were received for the above-referenced project on December 6, 2016. The quotes were <br />checked for mathematical accuracy and tabulated. <br /> <br /> <br />CONTRACTOR TOTAL BID <br />Olson’s Sewer Service, Inc. $39,715.60 <br />CW Houle, Inc. $69,245.00 <br />Taylor West LLC $73,322.60 <br />Veit & Company, Inc. $109,701.00 <br /> <br />The low bid was submitted by Olson’s Sewer Service, Inc., Forest Lake, Minnesota, in the <br />amount of $39,715.60. The completion date for this project is June 16, 2017. <br /> <br />The 2016 General Fund Streets Budget includes $125,000 for Surface Water Maintenance <br />projects. To date, the City has incurred $24,275 of expenditures primarily related to finishing up <br />the 2014/2015 Surface Water Maintenance projects. Due to the nature and timing of Surface <br />Water Maintenance projects, the Finance Department is recommending the establishment of a <br />Surface Water Maintenance Fund to account for the 2016 carryover of funds, as well as the <br />surface water maintenance allotment budgeted for annually in the General Fund Streets Budget. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff recommends adoption of Resolution No. 16-173 accepting quotes and awarding a <br />construction contract for the 2016 Surface Water Maintenance Project, in the amount of
