General Outreach
BRE visits are geared toward specific businesses that offer the opportunity for future reinvestment. However, the
creation of a healthy communication system is paramount to fostering a strong and vital business community, which
includes all Lino Lakes companies. Simple strategies that are easily implemented can make a positive impact.
As an extension of the BRE visits, Lino Lakes can build upon its existing communications. Ideas for consideration:
1. Creating a Business tab on the City's web site to direct traffic to available business assistance programs,
economic development partners pages, development opportunities, new ordinance changes, transportation
or road construct concerns, etc.
2. Add local businesses to City Newsletter mailing and have a section specified for businesses news. Highlight a
local business in this area.
3. Develop an email blast system that can alert businesses issues or opportunities such as training or chamber
events.
4. Dialogue with the local area Chambers of Commerce about outreach and how the City may use their
resources.
Partners
Leverage is an important component of a successful program. Once the BRE program has been authorized, Lino
Lakes needs to reach out to its economic development partners such as MN DEED, Greater MSP, Anoka County,
Xcel Energy and others. These organizations offer educational training, financial programs, technical assistance and a
variety of other business resources. Connectivity for assisting local businesses strengthens the entire community.
As programs or technical expertise is identified, it can be included as a resource for local businesses. This is a way for
Lino Lakes to enhance how the City facilitates business retention.
Budget
The proposed Business Retention and Expansion Program draws on financial resources the City currently has in
place. It does require the allocation of staff time and a commitment to the long term implementation of the visitation
and outreach components. When instances occur and materials need development or expertise is required to help
facilitate an expansion, the City should reach out to its development partners. In many cases, they can help with a
portion of the financial costs associated with a project. Partnership is the pivotal point of accomplishing any economic
development effort.
