CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 1H <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Lisa Hogstad-Osterhues, Deputy City Clerk <br />MEETING DATE: August 8, 2016 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 16-84, Authorizing issuance of a <br />Special Event Permit for the American Legion Post 566 <br />Blue Heron Days Family Picnic and Boat — Motorcycle - <br />Car Show <br />VOTE REQUIRED: <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Simple Majority (3/5 Vote Required) <br />American Legion Post 566 has scheduled a special event for August 19th 20th and 21st <br />during the weekend of the Blue Heron Days festival. The outdoor event plans include a <br />barbeque, beverages, classic country rock band that will play outdoors from 1:00 p.m. to <br />6:00 p.m. on August 20th as well as a motorcycle — car show from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />on August 20th <br />The Minnesota Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division has approved a 1- 4 Day <br />Temporary On- Sale Liquor License to allow the consumption of alcohol in this outdoor <br />area. <br />The Legion would like to hold a motorcycle — car show on city owned property to the <br />south of the Legion where the Community Gardens are located. <br />The Legion has submitted to the City an application for a Special Event. The <br />applications have been reviewed by staff, including the public safety departments, and the <br />applicant has been provided with a list of safety conditions. The applicant has agreed to <br />comply with the conditions and to address any other safety considerations that may arise. <br />Therefore, staff is presenting for city council consideration a resolution authorizing the <br />issuance of a Special Event Permit for the American Legion Post 566. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve Resolution No. 16-84, authorizing issuance of a Special Event Permit to the <br />American Legion Post 566. <br />
