AGENDA ITEM NO.
STAFF ORIGINATOR Peter Kluegel, Building Official
DATE May 8,1996
TOPIC Consideration of Amending Section 1003,
Electrical Inspector and Electrical Permits
BACKGROUND:
In November, 1995, the City Council adopted an ordinance creating the position of
electrical inspector and outlining the duties and responsibilities of the inspector. Pete
Kluegel, Building Official submitted a copy of the ordinance to the State of Minnesota
Board of Electricity as proof that the City had created an Electrical Inspector position and
requested the transfer of some electrical permits.
William Bickner, Executive Secretary, State Board of Electricity wrote to Mr. Kluegel
explaining that portions of the ordinance were in conflict with or were more restrictive
than Minnesota State Statutes. An ordinance amending the original ordinance was
prepared and submitted to the City Attorney along with the letter from Mr. Bickner for
his review and comment. The City Attorney has reviewed the new ordinance and has
recommended its adoption.
If the City Council decides to take the recommendation of the City Attorney, the FIRST
READING would be adopted this evening. A SECOND READING will be held on
Tuesday, May 28, 1996. The ordinance would be published on June 4, 1996 and would.
be come effective July 4, 1996.
OPTIONS
1. Adopt the FIRST READING of Ordinance No. 05 - 96
2. Return to staff for further information.
RECOMMENDATION
Option 1
