Jablinski
780-7608
May 8, 1996
Mr. David Ahrens, City Engineer
City of Lino Lakes
1189 Main St
Lino Lakes MN 55014
Dear Mr. Ahrens:
As we reviewed the latest Option "I" as presented by the citizens this past week,
it has become very clear to me that the lack of car/bus separation is, in my
opinion, a major safety flaw in this plan.
With only a single entrance/exit onto the school site, it will be a traffic
nightmare. When you mix the estimated 150 cars with 30 school buses, a very
volatile situation occurs.
By our most recent counts at the junior high, we anticipate approximately 150
cars wanting to access the school during the peak times. People will not simply
sit stalled in a parking lot for 10-15 minutes as the buses clear. My suspicion
is, they will line up on Elm Street and have their children walk down the
sidewalk to the Grey Herron intersection area. This will create a significant
safety concern for all walkers and drivers. My guess is the neighborhood will
not appreciate it and would be opposed to it.
Therefore, I remain supportive of Option "F" as the safest option for walkers,
buses and cars. Options "A" or "B" will also work --but clearly "F" is the
better proposal.
Mike Hughes,
Transportation Safety Coordinator

i, Printed On Recycled Paper
"An Equal Opportunity Employer"
