=SEN
February 20, 1996
3535 VADNAIS CENTER DRIVE, 200 SEH CENTER, Si PAUL, MN 55110 612 490-2000 800 325-2055
ARCHITECTURE • ENGINEERING • ENVIRONMENTAL • TRANSPORTATION
Mr. David Ahrens, P.E.
Director of Public Works/City Engineer
City of Lino Lakes
1189 Main Street
Lino Lakes, MN 55014-2123
Dear Dave:
RE: Lino Lakes, Minnesota
Well No. 3 Pumphouse
SEH No. A-LINOL9509.02
Bids were received today for the Well No. 3 Pumphouse. Attached please find a Tabulation of the
Bids.
Of the eight bids received, the initial apparent low bidder at $339,200 was M.C. Magney
Construction, Inc. However, shortly after the completion of the bid opening, Mr. Jerry Adriaens,
with M.C. Magney Construction, Inc., came in and said he had erroneously written down the wrong
number, and their real bid was $399,200.
Upon returning to my office, I called Mr. Mark Magney, President of M.C. Magney Construction,
Inc., and asked him what had happened. He said Jerry had made a mistake in writing down the
bid, and the real number was $399,200. About an hour later, Mr. Mark Magney was in my office
with a letter stating the same and that they were "withdrawing their bid for the referenced project".
The next low bidder was Sheehy Construction Company, Inc. at $391,300. At 12:47 p.m. today, I
spoke to Mr. Mike Sheehy about his bid. He said "...we're fine with our price and want to do the
job".
Since M.C. Magney Construction, Inc. has officially withdrawn their bid in writing, I recommend
the project be awarded to Sheehy Construction Company, Inc, 360 West Larpenteur Avenue, St.
Paul, MN 55113 in the amount of $391,300. The engineer's estimate presented in writing prior to
the bid opening was $380,600.
Sheehy Construction Company, Inc. is currently finishing Water Treatment Plant No. 2 for which
SEH is the engineer at Lakeland, Minnesota. Also, Sheehy Construction Company, Inc. constructed
Water Treatment Plant No. 1 at Lakeland approximately four years ago where we were also the
engineer. Sheehy Construction Company, Inc. is a reputable contractor and will do a good job for
the City on this project.
SHORT ELLIOTT
HENDRICKSON INC. MINNEAPOLIS, MN ST. CLOUD,_MN CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI MADISON, WI LAKE COUNTY, IN
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
