NSCAH
PHILOSOPHY/NEED
All people are only an accident, disease or age away from a disability. People
who do not have a disability are referred to by representatives of the
Disability Community as TAB (Temporary Able Bodied). With help, support and
co-operation from TAB persons, people with disabilities can have a quality life
after a disability.
Time is urgent! The TAB population must join forces with persons with
disabilities! We must eradicate the barriers that exist in our society that
prevent people with disabilities from becoming independent, self sufficient and
having a quality life.
North Suburban Consumer Advocates for the Handicapped (NSCAH, Inc.) needs
sufficient funding, staff and volunteers to promote programs that have long
term benefits for persons with disabilities. For example, the old proverb
"give a man a fish to help him through the day, but also teach him how to fish
so he can take care of himself for a lifetime", often heard, but rarely
followed. Giving a needy person with disabilities money will help meet short
term needs, however, if transportation, education, employment, architectural
and attitudinal barriers are adapted to meet the needs of the disabled
community a long term benefit will occur. This would allow full citizen
participation for all. TAB's and disabled persons alike.
