Motion carried
unanimously.
6:30 P.M. PUBLIC HEARING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
(CDBG) APPLICATIONS, RANDY SCHUMACHER
Mayor Reinert opened the public hearing at 6:35 P.M. Mr.
Schumacher explained that the City will receive $37,601.00 in
CDBG funds for 1995/1996. This money is to be used to benefit
low and moderate income residents. The purpose of the public
hearing is to receive comments and requests for the use of the
funds. Mr. Schumacher noted that a number of written requests
have been received including some new programs. The City Council
will take comments this evening, review the written material and
then make their decision at the February 13, 1995 regular Council
meeting.
Cathy Wiedmann, Coordinator of Senior Programs and Volunteers,
Anoka County Community Action Program, Inc. (Request,
$3,637.00) - Ms. Wiedmann thanked the City Council for their
support of the senior outreach worker in Lino Lakes and the
extension of residual funds last month. This indicates that the
City Council is committed to the welfare of vulnerable isolated
residents. The purpose of the Outreach Program is to link
seniors and older/disabled adults with services that help them
remain in their homes. The outreach worker becomes an advocate
or case worker that helps these residents access basic services
such as food and heat.
Ms. Wiedmann explained that the program is cost effective since
it allows seniors and disabled adults to remain in their homes
and not relocate to costly hospitals or nursing homes. In the
past the energy assistance funds were used to supplement the CDBG
funds, however, it appears that this funding is in jeopardy. Ms.
PAGE 2
