Council Member Elliott introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95 - 134 <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE <br />AWARENESS MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the problem of family violence has reached epidemic levels in Anoka <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, domestic violence will not be tolerated in Anoka County; and <br />WHEREAS, over 15,000 women and their families experience domestic violence access <br />services through Alexandra House, an organization for battered women <br />and their children and youth, community hospitals and programs; and <br />WHEREAS, it is estimated that up to 70% of the children/youth who come to Alexandra <br />House for shelter are abused; and <br />WHEREAS, domestic violence can be eliminated because concerned residents and <br />organizations are working together to prevent family violence through <br />social change, human service programs, and the criminal justice system; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and <br />WHEREAS, during October, media, churches and other organizations will provide <br />information to area residents about the prevalence and consequences of <br />family violence and what they can do to help reduce violence. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Vernon F. Reinert proclaims <br />October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Lino Lakes. <br />Adopted by the Lino Lakes City Council this 9th day of October, 1995. <br />_1 <br />n .An <br />Vernon F.
