AGENDA ITEM 11C <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: David Ahrens, Public Works Director <br />4- <br />DATE: <br />11/9/95 <br />TOPIC: Sunset Road Utility Extension <br />Authorize Chancre Order to Construct Sunset Road Utility Project <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Staff requested Forest Lake Contracting, Inc., to provide a quote for a change <br />order to the existing contract for the Highway 49 and County Road 23 <br />Intersection Project. This was done to speed up the bidding process since the <br />property owners have expressed some urgency in getting the project done this <br />fall. The other alternative to the change order is to advertise for bids, which <br />would delay the project until next spring. The quote submitted by Forest Lake <br />Contracting is $38,910.55. The Engineer's estimate was $38,380.00 or <br />approximately 1% lower than Forest Lake's quote. The prices provided by <br />Forest Lake Contracting, Inc., are very reasonable and it is staffs opinion that <br />there would be minimal or no cost savings bidding the project in the spring. <br />Funding for the project is proposed to be through the collection of assessments <br />from the property owners. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Return to staff for further review. <br />2. Adopt Resolution No. 95-155 Authorizing the City Engineer to Construct <br />the Sunset Road Utility Extension Project as a Change Order to the <br />Highway 49 and County Road 13 Intersection Project. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council adopt option number 2. <br />
