PLANNING & ZONING BOARD
OCTOBER 11, 1995
Mr. Wessel indicated economic development continues to
get inquiries regarding the construction of metal
buildings in Lino Lakes for industrial and commercial
uses. A real need exists for clarification of the
existing ordinance. He noted the need to establish a
clear direction on this issue as they complete the 1996
Economic Development Plan. He indicated an educational
effort will be required to inform existing companies
within Apollo Business Park of the revised ordinance.
Mr. Wessel indicated the intent of revising the
ordinance is to update our awareness of recent
technology and create a niche which will provide a
competitive advantage over other communities.
Mr. Wessel noted this revised metal building ordinance
is not intended to allow the actual construction of pole
barns for commercial/industrial purposes within the City
of Lino Lakes, nor to compromise a commitment to building
quality projects or substantial real estate values.
Mr. Robinson concurred with EDAB, the ordinance has
needed to be updated for some time. He felt the City
has been losing commercial/industrial development
because of the ordinance.
Mr. Wessel did point out, perhaps a covenant should be
established for the Apollo Park area to continue
building continuity in the Park.
Mr. Gelbmann expressed concern about the quality of
buildings, he would like to address performance
standards such as: corrosion, dents, etc. Mr. Wessel
indicated aesthetics are always an issue.
Mr. Johnson indicated the extremes; pole barns to metal
skinned buildings, he suggested viewing examples of what
would be acceptable. Mr. Wessel indicated at the next
meeting he would provide photographs and descriptions.
8
