COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 13, 1995
Council Member Bergeson asked if the Gambling Ordinance required
that gambling take place at a certain type of establishment such as
an establishment with a liquor license. Could an establishment
without a liquor license be licensed for lawful gambling? Mrs.
Anderson said that she did not know. Council Member Bergeson asked
if the City could legally approve a gambling license for an
establishment before the liquor license is approved. Mrs. Anderson
explained that the application for a gambling license must be
submitted approximately 60 days prior to the date that gambling
will commence. Therefore, a decision regarding the gambling
license is being requested at this time. Mr. Hawkins said he was
not aware of any requirement that gambling must be in a liquor
establishment. (The Minnesota Gambling Board says that lawful
gambling can be conducted by non-profit organizations in many
different places such as a community centers, Knights of Columbus,
Shriner's organizations and other places where liquor is not
available.)
Council Member Elliott moved to approve the gambling license for
the Centennial Fire Relief Association for operation at Miller's on
Main.
