AGENDA ITEM.#4 <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jackie Constant <br />DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />August 22, 1996 <br />Consideration of goals for licensed city haulers <br />MCBGROUND <br />The city council passed a resolution for Intent to Organize Collection at the March 25, <br />1996 council meeting. This resolution enabled the participation of interested parties, <br />including the licensed haulers to plan and establish an efficient collection system. State <br />Stat. 115A.94 Section 46 Subd. 4 states there shall be a 90 day period where the city <br />shall supervise the development of plans or proposals for organized collection. The <br />haulers will be beginning the development of a proposal to city council based on the <br />established goals. Please find attached goals established by the Solid Waste Advisory <br />Committee and city council at the August 20, 1996 work session. The committee would <br />like to adopt the following goals <br />- Limited truck tna fisc%one recycling truck and one rubbish truck per street <br />a) wear and tear <br />b) traffic Way <br />#2 Uniform day of weekly collection. <br />a) rubbish/recycling pickup same day per week. <br />#3 - Expanded program for curbside recycling <br />a) additional materials accepted for recycling (boxboaril,i <br />books, etc.) <br />and soft covered <br />#4 - Limited hours of operation <br />a) set hours of pickup of rubbish and recycling (non peak hours) <br />OPTIONS <br />1. Approve goals as presented. <br />2. Refer back to staff for further consideration. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Option 1. <br />
