March 31, 2014
Mayor Jeff Reinert
600 Town Center Parkway
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
Mayor Reinert:
During the special meeting held by the Charter Commission on March 24, 2014 a motion was
presented and passed requesting funds for an external resource, Attorney Karen Marty, to aid
in reviewing the proposed ordinances. This request is to specifically provide the Commission
with this resource to act as a consultant for the two Ordinances (03-14 and 04-14) proposed by
the City Council with a specified time frame. We fully understand and appreciate that our
current 2014 budget of $1,500 is set aside for the Charter Commission specifically to frame and
amend.
The attached estimate of work clearly outlines that Attorney Marty will be researching and
reviewing the ordinances, and will be in attendance for no more than two hours at our regularly
scheduled meeting on April 10. There is also a specification that the actual invoice cannot
exceed this estimate.
We have negotiated a discounted rate with Attorney Marty as we are acutely aware of the
fiscal responsibility we have as tax payers in our community.
Due to the timing of our meeting, please let me know how the Charter Commission can
proceed in regard to this matter.
Sincerely,
Connie Sutherland
Chair, Lino Lakes Charter Commission
Enclosure: Estimate
CC: Julie Bartell, City Clerk
Kathryn Timm, Lino Lakes Charter Commission Vice Chair
Caroline Dahl, Lino Lakes Charter Commission Secretary
