CITY CLERK REPORT
TO LINO LAKES CHARTER COMMISSION
Date: January 14, 2010
To: Lino Lakes Charter Commission
From: Julie Bartell, City Clerk
Re: Data on appointed officials
I would like to make Charter Commission members aware of new regulations at the State
level regarding contact information on public board and commission members.
Minnesota State Statutes, Section 13.601 (attached), was recently amended by the
Legislature. This section deals with elected and appointed officials and specifically
identifies the public or private nature of data maintained by the city on applicants and
appointees.
The State is now requiring that once an individual is appointed to a public body, their
residential address is public and they should designate either a telephone number or
electronic mail address (or both) at which they can be reached.
As the Charter Commission convenes for its first meeting of the year, the roster for the
group is updated. As part of this, the group may want members to indicate either a phone
number or e-mail address that will be public. The contact information would then be
available if it is requested.
1
