Charter Commission <br />September 10, 2008 <br />Page 2 <br />44 <br />45 Commissioner Storberg suggested that the commission look into creating lawn signs that state <br />46 the website address. Commissioner Carlson stated he will investigate costs of lawn signs. <br />47 <br />48 Commissioner Lyden asked the commission about placing ads in local newspapers to direct <br />49 citizens to the website. Acting Chair Dahl asked Commissioner Lyden to look into ad costs. <br />50 <br />51 The next meeting of the Communication Subcommittee would be decided after this evening's <br />52 Commission meeting. <br />53 <br />54 B. 2008 Budget Update <br />55 Acting Chair Dahl reviewed the 2008 budget update. As of August 25, 2008, there were no <br />56 outstanding bills pending for payment. <br />57 <br />58 NEW BUSINESS <br />59 <br />60 A. Petition to repeal Chapter 8 <br />61 Acting Chair Dahl informed the committee that the citizens petition to repeal Chapter 8 of the <br />62 charter was recertified on September 5, 2008 and that language to that point will be on the ballot <br />63 in November. <br />65 MOTION by Commissioner Bretoi, seconded by Commissioner Carlson, to have the Charter <br />66 Commission's attorney investigate that proper procedure was followed by city staff in certifying <br />67 the petition to repeal Chapter 8. <br />68 <br />69 Motion carries with Commissioners Vacha and Storberg voting no. <br />70 <br />71 B. Ballot Language <br />72 At the September 8th meeting, the City Council decided what language would be placed on the <br />73 ballot from the petition. Commissioner Gunderson noted that the Council crafted language <br />74 which includes notice to voters that Chapter 429 would replace the referendum process. <br />75 <br />76 C. Resignation <br />77 Acting Chair Dahl presented a letter from Chair Cori Duffy resigning from the Commission <br />78 effective immediately. <br />79 <br />80 MOTION by Commissioner Zastrow, seconded by Carlson, to accept the resignation of Chair <br />81 Cori Duffy. Motion carries unanimously. <br />82 <br />83 Acting Chair Dahl stated that Cori Duffy worked extremely hard and did a good job for the <br />84 Commission, making many sacrifices with the time and effort she put into her duties as Chair. <br />85 All Commissioners present agreed. <br />'^ 86 <br />87 The next meeting of the Charter Commission will be Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 6:30pm. <br />2 <br />
